Aldar Education is currently seeking an outstanding Head - History and Politics for Yasmina British Academy in Abu Dhabi to join in Academic Year 2026/2027.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the highly successful Aldar family. Candidates must have a secure knowledge of teaching the English National Curriculum and a proven track record of implementing effective strategies to raise standards and plug gaps in learning to ensure outstanding progress for all. They will demonstrate leadership skills/experiences at a variety of levels and work collaboratively in a team. Successful candidates will be welcomed into a wonderful school family community, where staff are held in high regard by pupils, parents and school leadership alike. The successful candidates will be closely aligned with our core values and ethos and possess a genuine understanding and appreciation of the values of the region.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement policies and practices for the department which reflect the School's vision, aims, commitment to high standards of achievement, and effective teaching and learning;
  • Establish, monitor, and evaluate short, medium and long term plans for the development of the department;
  • Use data effectively to identify students who are underachieving in the department and create and implement plans of action to support those students;
  • Analyse and interpret relevant school data to inform policies and department/school SEF writing;
  • Ensure that appropriate and relevant schemes of work are developed, in place, and regularly reviewed and evaluated, for all year groups and courses, including provisions for SEN/POD, G&T, and EAL students;
  • Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity and progression in the department for all students, including those of high ability and those with special educational needs;
  • Set expectations for staff in relation to standards of achievement and the quality of teaching and learning and behaviour;
  • Evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the department and use this to identify effective practice and areas for improvement; take action to further improve the quality of teaching and learning;
  • Ensure the department is regularly contributing towards the school's CAS Programme and after school Booster/Revision Sessions for I/GCSE and IB DP courses;
  • Performance manage the team in accordance with the school performance management policy;
  • Deploy staff and resources effectively and efficiently;
  • Maintain efficient and effective control of the department's resource and CapEx budgets;
  • Use accommodation to create an effective and stimulating environment for teaching and learning in accordance with the Learning Environment Policy.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related subject with PGCE or other teacher qualification.
Minimum Experience
  • Minimum of 6 years of teaching experience.
  • Experience of the UK curriculum.
