Responsibilities

• Conducts research by publishing findings or investigating literature
• Performs biomedical investigations in support of medical risk management related to potential hazards and incidents involving medical equipment and accessories to medical devices
• Interprets technical data and specifications to assist in the procurement of new equipment purchases, providing guidance related to the maintenance of medical and scientific instrumentation based on biomedical application, manufacturer guidelines, national code, standard of care, and customer requirements
• Provides feedback to assist in the planning of new facility modifications as they relate to medical equipment and accessories used in new or modified biomedical care areas
• Provides guidelines on the most suitable equipment in relation to the existing environment and facility requirements
• Oversees and supports all engineering drawings of medical equipment, ensuring accuracy of details such as electrical circuits, control programs, civil and mechanical aspects, and related components
• Ensures the specifications of each item of equipment and availability of spare parts (on and off site) in case of breakdown
• Ensures market availability of spare parts or replacements for equipment no longer under warranty
• Assists in the preparation of SSMC's annual physical asset management and maintenance plan
• Monitors the external environment for best practices in the management and maintenance of biomedical equipment
• Prepares technical requirements and conducts technical evaluation to acquire and select new medical technology
• Assists and conducts necessary site tests, recording, analysing, and interpreting test data, and proposing modifications and retesting equipment as necessary
• Ensures implementation of regulatory standards, policies and procedures applicable to all technical areas of service
• Coordinates with the relevant vendor to arrange any necessary training for concerned staff

Accountabilities

• Manages and is responsible for smooth office operations
• Ensures proper filing and keeps records of all important messages and meetings

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of postgraduate experience in Biomedical Engineering; at least 4 of those years in a senior supervisory or management role or equivalent
• BSc degree in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent (minimum 3 year training course)

Desired Qualifications

• Relevant postgraduate degree: MSc or PhD
